Nissan Partners with Habitat for Humanity to Build Sustainable Houses

You probably know that Nissan is on board with the Green Vehicle Movement with their efficient Nissan Leaf EV. But did you know that Nissan is doing more for sustainable energy in the US?  In fact, Nissan is involved in building energy-efficient houses for people in need in the U.S. The first grant-funded, green home is being built right now Georgia with the help of Nissan volunteers and non-profit Habitat for Humanity chapter, Southern Crescent Habitat.  There will be 10 energy-efficient homes outlined in Nissan's and Habitat's Sustainable Building Program. The first house is now been built in the Atlanta area, GA and when completed will be ENERGY STAR 3.0 certified. If you are not familiar with the ENERGY STAR rating system, a 3.0 rating is recognized as being highly advanced.

A single mother of two, Kenya Bouie, who swung a hammer right alongside the volunteers, is moving into the sustainable home built with the helping hands of a few dozen national Nissan employees and local Nissan dealership professionals.

Keya indicates that she learned a lot of valuable lessons in her journey toward becoming a proud homeowner. First she is not alone in her housing struggle. She also adds that she "learned what should be done in a home when something happens, how to fix it without having to spend money (to be) cost efficient and it helps me be independent."1

All this was made possible by Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization which Nissan has been partnering with for 7 years now, contributing money, vehicles and manpower.
