RICHMOND, Ky. – The year 2009 marks the 275th anniversary of the birth of the explorer who helped put Kentucky
on the map – Daniel Boone. The state park that bears his name will be
holding several special events to commemorate this pioneer’s life.
FortBoonesboroughState Park near Richmond
will host events throughout the year as part of the commemoration. They
will lead up to a special birthday weekend on Oct. 17-18, 2009. Events
include:
-A
“Fireside Chat” on March 7 at 7 p.m. with Scott New portraying Daniel
Boone. Limited seating is available. Call 859-527-3131 Monday through
Friday for reservations. Tickets are $15 for adults; $5 for children 12
and under and include a “Taste of Frontier Fare at 5:30 p.m.
-“Boone at Noon” on Saturdays once a month April through September with historians, experts and authors speaking about Boone.
-The
1778 Siege of Boonesborough commemoration Sept. 26-27. This event
includes battle re-enactments, living history demonstrations and a
Native American village.
-A school day opportunity for class field trips to FortBoonesborough on Oct. 16. Space is limited and reservations are required.
-The
Oct. 17-18 weekend, which will feature Boone historians and experts as
well as New with several portrayals of Boone and other living history
programs.
