Looking for the best coffee shops in Richmond, KY? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. With an abundance of great cafés serving a broad selection of coffee drinks in a diverse range of styles, from third-wave excellence at A Cup of Common Wealth, to the iced Madagascan vanilla cream with all the trimmings (and probably some coffee) at Panera, there is something featured here for everyone.

1. A Cup of Common Wealth

Simply the best coffee in the area, A Cup of Common Wealth serves coffee from Magic Beans Coffee Roasters, a highlight of the specialty coffee scene in Kentucky. Although they are all about excellence in coffee, this shop has a secondary focus on sustainability and ethics in the industry. The “pay it forward” concept allowing customers to buy drinks for strangers is a great community touch, and the slow bar here is not to be missed for the full experience.

2. Purdy’s Coffee

Purdy’s Coffee is one of the local favorites in Richmond. With two venues, one in downtown Richmond and the other on Big Hill Avenue, you are sure to find a seat and a warm welcome at Purdy’s no matter how busy they get. They serve seasonal single-origin coffees on a weekly rotating basis, as well as their own house blend, and a decaf coffee from Brazil. As well as great coffee, they also serve Kentucky Proud loose leaf tea here.

3. Panera Bread

Frozen drinks, smoothies, and iced teas are definitely some of the most popular treats here on a hot day, or try their cold brew coffee served with vanilla and chilled almond milk for a sweet refreshment. Panera is also locally famous for its amazing bakery. Bagels, brownies, and bear-claws are all available here, but the unmissable must-try at this café has to be the sandwiches on their house-baked bread for us.

4. Native Bagel Co.

The Native Bagel Company, as the name suggests, are bagel specialists of the highest quality. Recently named by Yelp as one of the best female-owned businesses in the country, and named the best bagel in the state by Taste of Home, they are serious about their bagels here. They do not scrimp on the coffee front either, serving a good selection of espresso-based drinks and cold brew.

5. Cairn Coffee

Cairn Coffee takes our final spot here. One of the coolest places to hang out in Kentucky, Cairn Coffee host regular live music and offer a relaxed space in which to unwind with an iced coffee and one of their homemade pastries. They are serious about their latte art here, where the baristas turn out tulip after tulip for their Instagram page.

Whether you’re heading to the slow bar at A Cup of Common Wealth to chat to one of the most knowledgeable baristas in the state about the best way to make the most of the fruity cupping notes in your light-roasted Ethiopian single-origin, or you’re after bear-claws and mocha at Panera, you’ll need a vehicle to get you there.
