Winter is behind us, and summer’s just around the corner, but with so much to do in Richmond, KY there’s still time to make this springtime special. Read on for our list of spring activities to try in the area.

1. Tasty Tuesdays

From April, you can head down to Irvine MacDowell Park at 345 Lancaster Avenue every Tuesday for food and music in the fresh spring air. Local food vendors will provide a variety of eats, while live music is provided on the spot. Meet up with friends at 5pm and check out the best that the community has to offer.

2. Duck Derby

Come along to Lake Reba Recreational Center on Gibson Bay Drive for a different kind of Kentucky Derby! May 6 sees a Duck Derby to raise funds for the Madison County Special Olympics programme. Choose a rubber duck and watch the live stream from Adventure Falls to find out which wins the race. The event starts at noon, and with cash prizes and the chance to contribute to the local community, it’s the perfect spring event.

3. Kids to Park Day

If you’re wondering about the best way to channel the kids’ extra energy this spring, May 21 will give you an opportunity to get them out and about. Starting at 11am at Paradise Cove Aquatic Center at 274 Lake Reba Drive, the Kids to Park Day event has teamed up with Kitefest to provide a range of activities to encourage families to make the most of the outdoors.

Children will be able to make and fly kites, play disc golf, softball, basketball, and baseball, and tackle obstacle courses. There’ll also be the chance to experience storytelling, nature art, and to learn about animals, as well as a free shaved ice. Fill the seven seats in your Nissan Pathfinder with the kids and their friends and come along.

4. Floracliff Nature Sanctuary

If springtime fills you with the urge to reconnect to nature, you have to make time to visit the Floracliff Nature Sanctuary. Located at 8000 Elk Lick Falls Road in Lexington, it’s 346 acres devoted to preserving the natural environment in the Inner Bluegrass region. It’s accessible through a series of programs, hikes, and workshops, such as the golden hour hike to the Kentucky River on April 18, or the creek exploration on April 29.

It’s also possible to book tours, so take a look at the schedule and arrange a visit to learn more about this unique landscape.

Spring is one time of year that you don’t want to miss, so take the opportunity to get out the house and into the community. And while you’re making the most of Richmond, be sure to visit us at Gates Nissan to learn about our great offers and find the perfect car for your lifestyle and needs.
